Lots of Twisters

Dear Peregrin,

I have had two dreams about tornado. One involved my father and grand father in a car running from a tornado. We drove to a house and my father and I made it inside my grandfather did not. That is all I can remember about that dream. The other happened last night and I remember even less - the only thing that stands out in my mind was that I saw a tornado. I know their has been a lot of hoop-la over the movie Twister, but I think their is more to it than just that. Thanks for your help.

Erik

Good morning, Erik.

The movie "Twister" put tornadoes on everyone's mind, but it probably had minimal influence in choosing the symbol (I dreamed about tornadoes before I saw movies about them). It is a force of nature that is as close to raw chaos as anything could be, closer than anyone would ever want to see. In the dream where you made it inside, but your grandfather did not, it could be a symbol for aging and death. It nearly always represents a force beyond anyone's control.

If the dreams return to disturb you, try reading some of the tall tales of Pecos Bill as a counter. Yes, it's silly, but that's not important. By having a figure in mind who has control over tornadoes, you will banish some of the feelings of powerlessness.

Pleasant dreams,

Peregrin
