Cheatin Dream

Dear Peregrin,

I have been having a reoccurring dream where I am wanting to cheat on my boyfriend. In the most recent dreams I end up going out to a nightclub but I notice a man wearing swimming trunks and holding a red rose. This man asks me out and I end up getting into a red car and drive through a field and over a steep hill. We end up back at the nightclub and as I get out of the car my boyfriend is stood next to me. He starts to cry and runs away, I try to run after him but my eyes close and I can't see anything and when I try to walk I go dizzy and fall over.

Katie

Good morning, Katie.

Dreams like this tend to happen if we feel that we're missing romance in our relationship. You don't really want anyone other than your boyfriend, you simply wish he were more romantic and attentive.

* The man you leave with is wearing swimming trunks. This associates him with water, which is nearly always associated with emotion. It also means he's ready to "dive in" to a relationship.

* He holds a red rose, a traditional symbol of love and romance.

* You ride in a red sports car, a traditional symbol of adventure. Men who drive these are trying to attract women, so it's assumed that they will try harder to be romantic.

* You don't mention, but I'll bet he drove. The person driving a dream car is the one in charge in a relationship - and it sounds like you want someone to take charge and be strong.

So this is what you feel you're missing in your current relationship. But you come back to the club, back to your boyfriend. His tears are a recognition that you don't want to do anything to hurt him, but you are afraid that you will anyway because you can't see to run after him - you don't know what the future will bring. What you do know, however, is that you love him - because you fell over. In essence, you've fallen for him.

It sounds like you're actually pretty serious about this guy, but you just want a little more out of the relationship. I think this is a good time for you to strengthen your communication with him. Speaking as a guy here - we tend to be fairly blind at times and need things spelled out for us.

Pleasant dreams,

Peregrin
